Better Education Projects
“Education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world.” Nelson Mandela
The ongoing education deficit in Yemen’s younger generations has been a fundamental crisis for many decades. According to UN reports, there is a 51 percent illiteracy rat among Yemeni males and females, resulting in over half of the country’s population being unable to read and write. Lift Up Mankind, a newly formed relief organization, is currently working on providing educational resources to six neglected schools located in the outskirts of Yemen’s capital, Sanaa’s, in the Hizyez region.
Lift Up Mankind is restoring schools to better the educational environment for students in villages all across Yemen. When representatives from Lift Up Mankind and our newly-established sister chapter in Sana’a visited schools in December , they witnessed students taking their midterm exams outside, on the ground. These conditions were constant in all the schools, due to the lack of desks, chairs, and other basic classroom supplies. Damaged roofs and cold tiled floors made it difficult to hold classes, especially during winters or on rainy days. We believe that the youth need a safe and stable educational environment equipped with all the basic necessities like chairs and desks in order for them to develop and thrive intellectually.
